Post by Posidonsdaughter Wed Jul 14, 2010 3:54 am

In the past 5 weeks I have read the 6 Maximum Ride books and the 2 Hunger Games books.I read Catching Fire twice in 5 days. I am so excited that the Last Hunger Games book Mockingjay will be out 8/24. Both series are great and really enjoyable summer reads. I just finished Catching Fire today. It's the 2 nd book in Hunger Games. What a face paced book, it had me glued to the end. But what will the end be? I am glad I onhy have to wait 40 more days to find out.
Oh yeah, just got home today. 5,500 miles later.

My most anticipated Summer read is probably Shadow Wave coming Sept.1 by Robert Muchamore and the last of the currently planned CHERUB books.

Most anticipated Autumn read is still split between The Lost Hero and The Lightning Thief Graphic Novel.

Most anticipated non PJO or Rick book? Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex.

bit off-topic but I was going through my to-read/to get list of books and it is long, long, long. Like really really long.

So far, it seems that major booksellers such as Borders and Barnes & Noble have no plans to host midnight release parties for Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, the third and final book in her best-selling The Hunger Games trilogy.
But independent bookstores across the country are stepping up to fill that void.
Among some of the bigger-name indie stores hosting parties: Books of Wonder in New York City, New York and Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon.
The event at Books of Wonder definitely takes the cake -- as it is the location of the official launch party for Mockingjay, and Collins herself will be making an appearance!
The Books of Wonder party kicks off at 8:00pm on August 23rd at the store on 18 West 18th St in New York City. The festivities include juggling, street performers, tarot card readings and more.
Collins will read the opening of Mockingjay just before midnight. Then, at the stroke of 12:00am, Collins will personally hand stamp each book with a special stamp designed exclusively for her 2010 Mockingjay tour. (Books of Wonder explains that, due to a hand injury, Collins cannot actually sign any books).

Across the country in Oregon -- the party at Powell's gets underway at 9:00pm on Monday, August 23rd at the store on SW 10th & Burnside in downtown Portland. The event will feature a costume contest, trivia challenge and giveaways. And of course, Powell's will begin selling Mockingjay at midnight on the dot.
Borders stores nationwide are also set to host Hunger Games Fan Fest parties on Saturday, August 28th -- but that will be a few days after Mockingjay's release.
Do you know of a Mockingjay release party in your area? Tell us about it in the comments!
Don't forget, you can countdown to the release of Mockingjay using Scholastic's countdown clock.

Midnight release?

Why is it always midnight... I mean, they'll say something will be released on, say, July 12th at midnight, but when it is released it will actually be July 13th.

Sorry I don't know. But we will be able to get our Hunger games and Catching Fire copies signed too. I am not happy with the Tarot cards. I don't know what place that has to do with the books but we will just ignore that part.

]Books of Wonder is incredibly, extremely, ecstatically thrilled to announce that we will be the site of the official launch event for, Mockingjay, the final installment of SUZANNE COLLINS’ The Hunger Games trilogy. So on Monday night, August 23, 2010, Books of Wonder will be celebrating the release of Mockingjay with a party the likes of which have rarely been seen. Starting at 8:00pm the Hunger Games themed celebration will kick off with activities and entertainment varying from face painting, magic and tattoos to jugglers, street performers and tarot card readers. All of these festivities will pale in comparison to what comes next – because as the official launch location of Mockingjay, SUZANNE COLLINS will be at Books of Wonder to officially release the book! Just before midnight, Suzanne will read the opening of Mockingjay and when the clock strikes midnight, books will be given out and SUZANNE COLLINS will personally hand stamp each book with a special stamp designed exclusively for her 2010 Mockingjay tour events (due to a hand injury, Ms. Collins will be unable to actually sign any books). As Ms. Collins has to leave promptly at 1:30am, books will be given out and stamped in the order in which customers check-in at our front counter on Monday night.

Here’s how things will work. Books of Wonder will close at 7pm as usual on Monday, August 23rd, then reopen at 8pm. Beginning at 8pm, there will be two lines to check in. One line will be for those who have paid in advance to pick up their vouchers that will be exchanged at midnight for your copy of Mockingjay. The other line will be for those who wish to pay for their copies that night. After paying, those customers will also receive their voucher to be exchanged at midnight for a copy of Mockingjay. Numbers will be given out as you receive your vouchers. However, we should warn you that the pre-paid line will move much faster (since there will be no waiting for people to pay) and so those folks will get to the front of their lines faster and so most likely receive lower numbers. After you have received your vouchers and your number on line, you are free to enjoy all the entertainment and activities until just before midnight, when SUZANNE COLLINS will read. After her reading, we will line people up in numerical order and beginning at midnight, start handing out books in number order for people to get their books stamped by Ms. Collins.

So don’t miss out on this gala event! Going from 8:00pm to 1:30am, the Books of Wonder official Mockingjay launch party is sure to be a night you and your teen readers will never forget. to pre-order a copy for the MOCKINGJAY MIDNIGHT MADNESS event on August 23rd, please call the store at 212-989-3270. Please note that only those books picked-up that evening will be stamped by Suzanne Collins.

If you cannot attend the event and would like to order a first edition, first printing for shipment, please click the book image below. At this time we cannot offer stamped copies to mail order customers, but if it is possible, we will give priority for such copies based on the date we receive your order.

This event is free and open to all. Please note that you are welcome to bring one book from home to be signed for each book you purchase on the day of the event. If you have any questions, call us at (212) 989-3270.</TR>

I am planning to pre-order our copy to make the wait time less for the line.

In the Hunger games trilogy I feel sorry for Katniss. She did not go looking for romance from either boy, but had it thrust on her. I believe she should really be with Gale, if he doesn't get killed. I feel so bad for Peeta because he isn't appreciated at home and has so excluded himself from ever being to love another girl. I know Katniss is developing a stronger liking for him, but she isn't going to ever be his unless Gale gets killed. Understandably she doesn't want marriage and children if they have to endure a life like she has had. So I could see her rejecting both if the Capital remains in control.

I am very sure one boy will die in Mockingjay.

Now do I start The Book Thief or Artimus Fowl.

I don't think I'd be allowed to read Harry Potter, because, ya know, I'm only 10. Speaking of which I am now double digits!!! YEAH! Okay back on topic. Reading this book called Goose Chase by Patrice Kindl about well, geese. It's kind of hard to explain but look up "goose chase patrice kindl" and you should find something.
