It depends though if they are good to the humans i the long run or not, because to have a century of sorrow followed by a millennium of joy is worth it. Cause at school I do have to twist things around to be able to get things done, they do sometimes hurt others, but in the long run it has always helped everyone.

Posidonsdaughter wrote:Spoiler alert for TLO and The MOVIE
Because they were only self-serving they took little interest too often in their children.
This as we see through the book series caused many children go to Kronos. It is why Percy made the gods to promise to claim their children by 12 yrs. old. But as we hear Hermes tell Percy, the gods keep their promise for awhile and then forget. So we already know that in the new series before it ends some godly parents are going to blow it.
The movie putting the blame on Zeus is an interesting twist. It made me enjoy the the parental voices to their children. It was like that little voice in you when a decision is being made should I or not. Their voices a form of little conscience influence.
Will we have Thalia in the moives and why did make that rule against his own daughter? Will we see any ban among the big three and what of Hades children?
SPOILER ALERT: i agree with zues being blamed in the movie, i think that it would be interesting if thaila were to go against zues in the sea of mosters

Re: Gods: good or bad
I agree with Luke but totally disagree with Riczhang. The gods were totally self-serving and abused humans. Riczhang saying hurting some butin the end everyone benefit;. is just wrong. 1,000 good does not make up for the 100 years that others had to suffer. Lying, stealing, cheating never helps anyone, especially the one doing it; but more than that is whomever is the victim of the action.
Sorry if I got off topic - and on a soap box. That is why the gods were bad they used humans for their own entertainment.

But, that is how the world works, so you just have to go along with it. Also, that is how all of the wars are justified, if it is "For the Greater Good" as in it in the long run benefits everyone then it is the right path to go down. Because if you always go down the path of equality and fairness, then one day the path will run out and that will just cause more harm when people start fighting. Also, peace can't last forever, you just have to try to make it last as long as possible, for every war we fight there comes a longer stretch of peace, so by killing 1 person but saving countless more at the same time is worth it. But, if they are just killing for pleasure, and being self-indulgent working for only yourself is just wrong, but if like God who lets the suffering go on so that one day all those who believe will go to a better peaceful world that is infinite in terms of how long it lasts, is worth it. So it there are alterer motives in terms of how they act to benefit everyone in the long run is worth it and makes the gods good. However if they don't have one & are just self indulgent or are working to create more suffering with no peace in return is just wrong. So to sum it up if the plans benefit everyone in the long run, is worth it and in my opinion is the right path to go down.

Re: Gods: good or bad
Well it is really tough debating generalities. I watch our soldiers going off to deal with a war that really isn't their's to fight, but they are fighting it. Am I pleased that so many are dying, no, but is there a better solution I don't know. But if my son would one day be called up to fight I would send him unhappily but send him. The Greek gods did do much good to man, but they also did much harm to man in the myths. So if you say they were good and I say they were bad in the end in it is a draw.

Yes, I do too. They have their moments of both. But in the end they were more a curse than a blessing.

Re: Gods: good or bad
I will go by what Rick Riordan says: One other intesting queston and answer: Q: "Do you believe in the gods?" RR: "Oh, no, that is too frightening to even consider. They are fun to write about, but I 'm glad my fate is not in their hands."
Radio interview Wednesday 2/17/10 http://www.onpointradio.org/2010/02/rick-riordans-percy-jackson
The interview is 1 hour long. He talks about the movie, the new series, young writers, Reads from The Red Pyramid, answers lots of fan questions.
