Great movies besides Lightning Thief
First topic message reminder :
ok so almost everyone has probably seen The lightning Thief by now. Some other movies that you may suggest can be posted under this topic. **We would appreciate it if you also post what it is about (a plot or a summary) and the rating for it.(PG, G, PG-13...)
Here are some great movies I've seen:
Avatar: rated PG-13
When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic
Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant
world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker
Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in
order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich
woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs,
Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by
gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate
the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake
begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the
beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his
ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand -
and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.
The Blind Side: Rated PG-13
"The Blind Side" depicts the story of Michael Oher, a homeless
African-American youngster from a broken home, taken in by the Touhys,
a well-to-do white family who help him fulfill his potential. At the
same time, Oher's presence in the Touhys' lives leads them to some
insightful self-discoveries of their own. Living in his new
environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to
overcome. As a football player and student, Oher works hard and, with
the help of his coaches and adopted family, becomes an All-American
offensive left tackle.
The Spy Next Door: rated PG
Bob Ho, a Chinese spy working with the CIA to stop a man named Poldark.
He's been posing as an importer and has been dating his neighbor,
Gillian, a single mother with 3 children. When Bob captures Poldark, he
retires from the spy game. He wants to make a commitment to Gillian but
her children are not exactly warming up to him. When Gillian has to go
out of town Bob offers to take care of the kids while she's away, which
proves to be no easy task. At the same time, Poldark somehow escapes.
It's apparent that some in the Agency helped him. At the same time
Colton one of Bob's associates at the CIA asks him to look at something
that Poldark had on him that appears to encrypted, hoping he can crack
it.When the children break into his home to see what they can find out
about him, they find the file and download it. And when they try to
open it, Poldark tracks it down and sends his people to take care of
Ho. Bob manages to deal with them and then takes the children and goes
on the run.
2012: rated PG-13
When the geologist Dr. Adrian Helmsley and his team discover that the
core of Earth is heating due to solar radiation, he advises the North
American President about his findings. The American Govern collects
money from the worldwide leaders to build arks to save them with
necessary people to rebuild civilization. Meanwhile, the unsuccessful
writer Jackson Curtis discloses that the world is near to end and tries
to save his son and his daughter from the tragic end.

Why does everyone like Avatar so much? It's just half-naked blue people running around and fighting.

I never really have a clear picture of people in books, just the places that they're in, but in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I had a clear picture of every character and Edmund was about 70% Skandar-looking.

Re: Great movies besides Lightning Thief
I loved 2012, i'd put a sumary but someone already did. I also liked Up and Avatar.
I really liked, Transformars:Revenge of the fallen
Thousands of years ago, there was a race of ancient Transformers who scoured the universe looking for energon sources. Known as the Dynasty of Primes, they used machines called Sun Harvesters to drain stars of their energy in order to convert it to energon and power Cybertron's All Spark. The Primes agreed that life-bearing worlds would be spared, but in 17,000 BC, one brother, thereafter dubbed "The Fallen", constructed a Sun Harvester on Earth. The remaining brothers thus sacrificed their bodies in order to hide the Matrix of Leadership —the key that activates the Sun Harvester — from The Fallen, who swore to seek revenge upon Earth.
In the present day, two years after the events of the previous film, Optimus Prime is seen leading NEST (Networked Elements:Supporters and Transformers), a military organization consisting of human troops and his own team of Autobots (including newcomers Arcee, Chromia, Elita One, Sideswipe, Jolt, and the twins (Skids and Mudflap) aimed at killing the remaining Decepticons on Earth. While on a mission in Shanghai, Optimus and his team destroy Decepticons Sideways and Demolishor, being given a warning by the latter that "The Fallen will rise again".
Back in the United States, Sam Witwicky finds a splinter of the destroyed All Spark, and upon contact the splinter fills his mind with Cybertronian symbols. Deeming it dangerous, Sam gives the All Spark splinter to his girlfriend Mikaela Banes for safe keeping, and leaves her and Bumblebee behind to go off to college.

completly agree. it's like a blury image, except if there was a movie based on a book, i sort of imagine the actors/actresses as the characters in the book. For Narnia, i think the cast was pretty good.
anyways, has anyone seen The Last Airbender? i really want to see it...
