Review of LT the movie
First topic message reminder :
AWESOME!!!!!!
THE MOVIE IS DEFINITELY NOT THE BOOK!
But I definitely liked it. It was very funny, action packed, and satisfying. You must go see it, but do not expect it to be mega faithful to the book. Be optimistic and keep an open mind, and you will have a great time.

demi...gawd! wrote:im sorry to be mister rain on the parade, but i thought it was terribly cliche and had really akward percabeth and was missing central characters that are important parts of the other books. Here's mister rainclouds review:
that movie was ugly and akward and made me wanna cry and laugh at them and scream epic fail all at the same time. Im sorry. The casino scene everyone looked high. And they played Poker Face?!?!?!? Wat was that? Don't eat the flower... so cliche. Annabeth's conflicting emotions about percy was cliche more than anything and it was so pathetic and akward. They dint mention kronos. They didnt mention ares. They didnt mention clarrisse. as far as i am concerned they killed luke with a... trident? What happened to riptide? The special effects were cheesy, especially in the underworld. The pearles weren't a central part. Persephone was not there in the book, yet she is in the underworld IN THE WRONG SEASON. the underworld didnt have cerberus. the underworld damned ALL people, and did not include elysium/isles of the blest. Charon was a lame character. They didnt have the waterpark. They didnt have St. Louis. Luke gave him flying shoes, yet they were not cursed, even though Luke wanted to kill Percy, so in other words Luke gave his worst enemy a kind present. Lotus casino was jacked up times a million, i have to say that again. "The flower dilutes your senses." Percy's cabin was messed up. Percy was supposed to be on annabeths team in capture the flag. Clarrise was supposed to beat him up and cause him to find he is from poseidon. Percy knew he was poseidon's son way to early. When Sally wuas captured, it was so fake acting and lame special effects. Percy beat the minotaur by luck. The voice of poseidon inside his head was lame and cliche and akward to watch. The opening graphic of Poseidon climbing out of water had horrible special effects, and it looked stupid and you couldnt figure out what was going on for like five minutes. The whole height difference was so obviously animated and messed up with green screens and such. Lord of The Rings did a way better job on that. Grover is NOT good with the ladies. He's only good with juniper, who doesnt show up until the fourth book anyway. Gabe wasn't a fat enough actor. Gabe wasn't supposed to be beat up by GROVER.
There's more too, i just am getting way to depressed.
And guys i knew it would be different form the book. I knew it was a directors take on it. But the central elements of the movie itself, the basics of good directing and screenwriting, were not there. I didn't feel like I could relate to these characters. They all seemed inhuman. The speical effetcs were bad enough to where all i could think about was how bad they were, not what they represented. The actors would do a bad job in reacting to a characters lines, so it looked like a high school play. And they swore a lot. What was that about?
I totally will see the next movie though. Just to laugh at them for doing such a terrible job and see what they are going to do considering they DONT HAVE THE CHARACTERS THEY NEED TO FOLLOW IT! What are you supposed to write a sequel about if they never mentioned Kronos? They mentioned Hercules more then him! I honestly don't know wats going on in their heads, but there was something extremely OFF about this movie.
OK before i say anything, I just wanted you to know that anything i type is not to disrespect you, just o put out another side.
The Minotaur: The fight was won with luck. In the books, Percy won the fight by some luck too.
Lotus Casino: The parts are both different from book and movie. But they did it in a way that greek mythology fans would understand. In the origenal myth, it was the Lotus Eaters. argo, They eat the lotus cakes.
Persphone: Ok, I got a little annoyed at this. I love Rosiaro Dawson, and She made an awsome Persphone, a goddess that everyone could pity.
Chiron: Ok I'm sorry, but Chiron was good. He was a teacher, always has been.
The Begining; I like how it started not on Percy. And it showed some of the power (ish) of the gods.
Percabeth: It was a bit corny. They're (supposted to be) kids.
Luke and Kronos: This gives a really cool twist. You think Luke is dead and the bad guy.....then you find out He's not dead, still bad, and not the biggest problem for the trio.
Grover: I LOVE movie Grover... The whole ladies thing works with Brandon Jackson.
I need to see it again, because I only saw the movie once.

I am in complete agreement with SilverHunter, and I have seen the movie 5 times. I truly despise Craig Titley for the hack up job he did with this screenplay. The only saving grace is that there is nothing that has been put into or left out of this movie that cannot be fixed in the second movie, provided they find a better screenwriter. It is so blatantly obvious that he had no regard for Rick, the fans, or the books. He had his PHD (piled higher and deeper - the stuff Percy cleaned out of Geryon stables) IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY. He was totally into himself and what he wanted to achieve from this movie.
Breathe! Boy, I had to get that out. Okay. Despite his stupidity the movie was truly enjoyable. We had our beloved characters, older, sassier, more interested in the opposite sex, and yet at the heart still the wonderful trio. The events were eschewed yet familiar places were still visited. Many things were deleted for time consideration and story flow. Our heroes were still victorious in the end.
Titley has not deleted one theme or character that cannot be weaved into the second movie by a screenwriter who cares.

Re: Review of LT the movie
Thank you Poesidonsdaughter!
I think the movie and the books, to me, are going to be two (2) different fandoms......
Something I wanted to add: Logan Lerman make Percy WAY Hotter then I imagined!
And This little girl I know (she's 5) loved the movie..... She listened to her 8 year-old brother read it to her. Just wanted to know what you thought of that??

SilverHunter, that is the best, what a great big brother and fortunate little sister. Here is one for you. A 13 year old boy reading the first 4 books to his mom, because she was to busy to read and read slowly, just so she could discuss them with him.

Sound's like something I'd do, cause my parents hardly get home before 10/11 pm so they're super busy and all we've had to eat for the past 2 weeks is take-out becasue she's too busy to cook. So I know that I did something like that with my beloved Harry Potter books but too my dad. But, that's only so that he could spend some time with me playing, cause he was like ignorign me then cause he was so busy.

Re: Review of LT the movie
The movie grossed an estimated 15.3 million on the second week down 51%(not bad, it it holds by dropping less than 55% from week 1-2 it's considered a good box office performer)for a total of 58 million in 10 days. It ranked #4 this week, and altogether worldwide it has grossed 126 million dollars.

Re: Review of LT the movie
I wanted to go see it again this weekend, but Pendragon didn't want to. So our family went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhatttan yesterday. It is about 20 miles from our home by car.
We did the Ancient Greek and Roman sections and then did a lead tour on Medival Armour. We got some good pictures, but I don't know how to share them.
The biggest surprise was find ing out that Rick Riordan would be at the Met in three weeks. So we got tickets immediately, the second row orchestra dead center.
Maybe we could get an interview with him for mortalnet?

Those figures are domestic market only not including the international market. With that included they probably cleared producrion cost.

Okay Thanks Ricz,
I've been going over a number of different sites and reading comments on the movie. They range the entire spectrum of giddy with delight to burn all the prints. For the most part the movie gets a passing grade - 70% not great but not failng.
