The Lord of the Ring Trilogy. Followed by Harry Potter, in my opinion.

I have moved this thread to the whatever section as this is about movies in general not The Lightning Thief.

Already did, movie was a flop, not good in both box office and quality. I saw it.

Re: best book turned movie?
Well the first Eragon was considered a good movie though it didn't make money, so now in this competitive market if the first film didn't make money or made very little they won't do a second one. So I would says that they may try to reboot the series when Eragon Book 4 comes out.

Re: best book turned movie?
i think the best book adaptation was the Lord of the Rings - but that may just be because im a serious fan of both the movies and the books (: -- oh and i mean the extended versions not the cut theatrical versions. does that count?

Yeah it does, and would you mind if I asked why the extended versions were better?

oops, sorry, lol. i didnt really know where to put this at the time
also, i have seen the golden compass and read the book.
i think the movie that got cloeset to the book would be the millenium trilogy, part one, the girl with the dragon tattoo. the one they made in swedan. the actress that played the lead role really looked like the character, and they didnt really go far at all form the books. there was only 2 changes i think and they where not that major to me. i am just scared as to how they will do the american verison -shivers-
most of the harry potters where close-ish but they started to stray form the books as the movies went on. espically the most recent movie

Re: best book turned movie?
I've seen the Golden Compass and read the trilogy, and the film was SUCH a dissapointment.
They had the chance to recreate an amazing world onto screen, and if you've read the books you would have been dying to see it on screen, but they just sucked all the magic and life out of it...
Eragon wasn't the best movie ever...I haven't read the books but my friends had and they talked about it CONSTANTLY which was annoying and the main reason why I DIDN'T ream them.
I really want to see the girl with the dragon tatoo. I'll have to get it on DVD...
Has anyone seen the Vampire's Assitant? It's based on the Darren Shan novels. I've read them but haven't seen it.
Harry Potter has been converted really well to film I think, because atleast they didn't change major plot points to make it shorter, like a certain other film *cough The Lightning Thief cough*.
Thing is I know the Lord of the Rings films are amazing, but I haven't read them, so I don't know how closely or how well they have been translated. My friend says that time scales in the film have been dramatically shortened, which means they did everything in months in the film when it took years in the book. Still love them though.

Yeah, I saw Golden Compass, and it was fairly loyal to the book. I thought Inkheart was great, actually. It's one of my favorite movies, AND book series. One of my top fave book-to-movies, though---How to Train Your Dragon, hands down! And I will NEVER stop saying this: ERAGON THE MOVIE WAS A COMPLETE, TOTAL, AND IRREVERSIBLE FAILURE!

The Golden Compass ended on a cliffhanger, even though that they knew that they wouldn't make a sequel.
Inkheart was pretty good, just not to the book.
Eragon........failed. I went to see it when it came out with friends of mine (some did read the books, others didn't). All of us were confused at the end. FAIL

LOTR's triolgy did a great job getting the most important parts in and staying faithful to the book. I can't wait for the Hobbit.
