Do you mean the one about the music contest between Pan and Apollo, or the one about Pan's "death"?

Perseus and Andromeda. I'm not going to get into Perseus' whole story although it is really good. Andromeda's mother Cassiopeia brags in Athena's temple that her daughter is more beautiful than the goddess. This of course causes Athena to demand that Andromeda be sacrificed to the Cedus or the the city of Joppa would be destroyed by water. Perseus was flying the Pegasus when he saw her about to be sacrificed and he saves her by showing the head of Medusa to Cedus. He marries Andromeda.
My apology I mistold one part. He did not have the Pegasus. That was a Hollywood telling of the story in the 1981 movie, "Clash of the Titans."

Re: What's you're favorite greek myth?
Then there is the story of Perseus. His mother Danae was the daughter of King Acrisius of Argus. The king received a prophecy that his grandchild would dethrone him. To prevent this he imprisoned his daughter in a tower with only one small grate in the ceiling for air. Zeus took pity on her and entered her prison as a shower of gold and left her with child. When her father found that she had a son he put Danae and Perseus into basically a floating coffin and left them to the fate of the sea and the gods.
Zeus was enraged by Acrisius' action and destroyed Argus with loosening the Kraken on them. He sent mother and child to the Island of Seriphos. Perseus grew up and baited into a challenge by King Polydectsand must prove himself by getting the head of Medusa. He confronts and defeats Medusa, saves and marries Andromeda, and then returns to Seriphos. He presents the head of Medusa to the king and it turns the king to stone.

Judgement of paris or actaeon and artemis ?
Artemis and Actaeon :
Actaeon was a hunter who ran into Artemis when she was bathing with her nymphs ... and turned him into a stag, he then got chased by his own hounds- they killed him ..
Judgement of Paris is the whole golden apple thing with Eris, and Hera, Athena and Aphrodite.....

Interesting choice, Eternal Huntress. Do you know the tale of Orion the Hunter? It's my personal fave.

Orion..
The hunter/ (giant?) who falls in love with Artemis , and who dies by either Gaea/Apollo/Artemis' hand :::
well i think thats the story
one of the versions is that a scorpion sent by Gaea or Apollo killed Orion, and many believe the consellation scorpio was attributed to it ...i think
and then you have Orion's belt which is a memorial to the hunter ....its a very interesting story ....
...and its one of my favourites too
very tragic .....

Isn't there something in the myth about Artemis falling in love with Orion? That's what I heard.

Re: What's you're favorite greek myth?
Posidonsdaughter wrote:Tough to pick one, Orion, Perceus, or Pygmalion. Okay, Orion because he dared to love the goddess Artemis, and he was her first and only love, for because of their love, the moon stop shining. Therefore, Apollo tricked his sister into showing Orion her true form, so the moon would shine again. This killed Orion instantly, and Artemis greatly mourned him. She took his soul and placed it in the stars to form the constallation Orion the Hunter. Because of this tragedy, she vowed never to love again.
Orion is a great story.

Re: What's you're favorite greek myth?
Ah, shut it! Anyway, the story of Perseus is probably my second favorite. He's probably one of the only heroes that's not a total jerk. I mean, take Jason, for instance. He needed Medea's help for almost everything involved in retrieving the Golden Fleece, marries the witch, dumps her, and ends up gettin' killed for it. Nice "happily ever after", huh?

The Story of Oedipus is also good. Everyone he ever knew and loved die in a horrible way. Seriously, research it, its worth reading. Read what happens to his chldren as well, their deaths are particularly amusing.

Oedipus is one of the more deep, intricate myths. My favorite part is the "Riddle of the Sphinx" scene.
